If you know me at all, you’d know that I am not much of a movie kind of gal. I don’t even subscribe to Netflix (I kid you not!) However, there is one movie that is an exception to this rule. It’s the only movie that I have ever purchased (yes, I promise I spent $14.95 on Google Play for this movie). And that movie is Dangerous Beauty.

This movie to me has been one of the catalyst that has helped me on my journey into my femininity.

What’s it all about?

Well, the story is about a famous Courtesan of the 18th century, named Veronica Franco. She was a woman to be reckoned with. In a time when woman had no advantages (they weren’t even allowed to have their own property), this woman wrote books of poetry, received an education, all while having a myriad of lovers who adored and cherished her. Kind of fierce, huh?! Seriously, if I could invite a woman from the past to dinner, hands down I would invite Veronica Franco.

Because her story inspired me so much, I decided to list a couple of ways in which we could all learn a thing or two from watching the movie. Spoiler alert: It may give away some details, so please be cautious before proceeding ;)

It takes a woman to know pleasure, before she can give pleasure.

In one of the most famous lines of the movie, Veronica Franco’s mother tells her that it takes one to know pleasure before she can give pleasure. When she said these words, it really stopped me in my tracks. This line was soooooo powerful. Veronica’s mother was trying to show her that a woman must know what pleases her first, before she can get into bed with a partner and feel satisfied.

Veronica Franco’s mother hit that home for me. Growing up, I believed that I had to rely on a partner for pleasure. Instead, Franco’s mother teaches us a new paradigm, that it’s up for us to take ownership of our bodies, and find out what we like first!

LESSON LEARNED: If we truly want to know what gives us pleasure, then we must take the reigns of our bodies, and explore with ourselves first!

Pleasure is a gift that we have an obligation to explore

In the movie, Veronica Franco makes it so that pleasure is her first priority. When she’s learning to become a Courtesan, she learns to dance, she upgrades her wardrobe, and she learns to play instruments, solely for her own pleasure. And….she don’t stop there though! She also attends parties (that would be similar to today’s galas), makes love, and creates poetry= all in the name of her own pleasure.

If there was a super pleasure Goddess, this would be her.

Okay so I know what you must be saying to yourself now. But Carrie, I have other things to do besides going to galas and getting into bed with a lover but I’ve got workkk (!?) or things like errands. I know sweet darling, lord those errands!! But seriously, if Veronica Franco can teach us something, it’s that we have more to life that just working and doing those errands. We have a duty as woman to explore what is truly pleasurable to us.

LESSON LEARNED: Pleasure is our birthright, and we must make it our priority!

Seduction is not something that happens with great pick up lines, it happens in the mind

When Veronica is training to become a Courtesan, her mother shows her how to seduce men that will soon become her clients. However, Veronica’s mother doesn’t teach her to go learn the latest pickup lines or wear the newest lipstick, in fact, Veronica doesn’t have to say a word at all. Instead her mother shows her that seduction starts in the mind. How? She asks her to think of her lover, Marco, and ultimately Veronica’s face that was sarcastic, turns to one of lust. It’s a really memorable scene in the movie. It all started with just one thought, and her expression and posture completely shifted.

This is completely contrary to what we’re taught in our horny society. We think that seduction starts with action (come on, how many dick pics have you received from men trying to “seduce” you with pictures of their cocks?). In truth, Veronica’s wise mom teaches us that seduction begins with just one thought about something that is wonderful for you without any action at all.

LESSON LEARNED: Seduction starts in the mind!

No matter where it is that you come from, you can always rise to the top.

For most Courtesans, including Veronica Franco, there was very little opportunity. Because women couldn’t have many professions, they had little choice. They either had to marry a rich man, become a handmaid, a nun, or a Courtesan to support themselves. However, did Franco use this as a pity party to why she couldn’t have a lavishing life? Hell no. She used her disadvantages and made them advantages by using what she got; like charisma, charm, and seduction. She educated herself and in just a short amount of time, she became one of the top Courtesans.

LESSON LEARNED: Anyone can change their circumstances, no matter how shitty it is.

So there you have it. My top 4 lessons I have learned from Dangerous Beauty. What do you think? Do you have any thought on this?
